Condition: Starts and runs very well. Very good condition and has undergone a thorough restoration in by Stig Lundquist from Orsa, 2018. Below is a brief summary of what has been done:

• Electrical system rewired, relocation of electrical controls on the handlebars, repair of various lighting connectors.
• Repair of cables.
• Newly manufactured and chrome-plated kick-start shaft.
• Adjusted cam timing, valve clearance, ignition, newly modified rotor, fabrication of new ignition cables.
• Cleaning of carburetor and newly installed funnel.
• Newly manufactured fuel line.

History: Restored in 2018 for exhibition at the MC Collection at Tidö Castle.

Edward Turner’s first design to go into production is perhaps also his finest. He used the engine sketches to seek work with manufacturers, and it was Ariel that eventually “bit.” The engine features four cylinders arranged in two pairs, one behind the other, with counter-rotating crankshafts. From the first 500cc model to the last 1,000cc model in 1958, the Square Four was primarily a popular sidecar-hauler.
