Mondial was one of the most successful road racing brands of the 40s/50s, the Italian company's peak period in racing was the years 1949–51. Mondial was founded in Bologna in 1929 and concentrated on the manufacture of commercial vehicles before World War II.
After World War II, the company spent more time on motorcycle manufacturing.
Mondial managed to take the world title in the ultra-lightweight class, which at the time was dominated by two-stroke engines. This is thanks to very skilled engine designers who developed 4-stroke engines with double overhead camshafts.
They won the world championship title in 1949, 1950 and 1951.
Mondial also developed a version with a single overhead camshaft, which was sold mostly to private customers. This model also became the factory's favorite for long-distance races, such as the Giro d'Italia and Milan-Taranto.
This particular machine is a single overhead camshaft FB Mondial Competizione that was sold new to Åke Östblom, who competed with this machine in 1954. The machine was then put aside for 30 years, after which it was put back in working order by Åke Östblom and at the end of the 90s sold to Karl Oskarsson.
The machine has never been subject to the crashes, rebuilds or modifications that the majority of racing motorcycles undergo. It is therefore one of the few surviving examples of a unique racing history in exceptionally original condition. Only 3 owners.
Condition:
The vehicle has been standing on museum for a long time and needs a review before it is put into service. Engine turns over with compression. Patinated racing condition.
